Wednesday, April 12th, 1883 Contrary to expectation the wind had gone down this morning, and the day has been bright and pleasant. Did milking, and put [illegible] buck-board for use this afternoon- came over to the office, and did some writing. Went down to the Court House, and settled up all costs in Ottoe's cases- Paid the Sheriff $9.00 and the clerk $16.50. After dinner hitched "Charlie" and the calf "Jim" to the buck-board and mother and I rode down to the Vally measured up the cord-wood on the East side of the road- Found that John William [Morford?] had cut 26 1/2 cords, and paid him therefor $25.- Frank and George Stevens had cut 17 3/4 cords and I paid Frank $12 bal. due- John had cut 3 cords- total 47 1/4 cords. We called at Grandmother's and Nelson's where mother got a setting of turkey eggs. Had quick and pleasant ride home- Put team out and after bite of supper did the milking- A fine pleasant eve. Hattie and Edith over to dinner and spent the afternoon Lillie Brandon here this afternoon. Thursday, April 13th, 1883. Weather cloudy, with raw wind in the east. Did milking and helped Father hitch up the colt. came over to town and spent the forenoon in office at work. After dinner called on Ira Hally and presented bill from Burlington. Spent the balance of the afternoon in the office reading and writing and running around. Got shave and home to supper. Lee did the milking, and I burned the leaves off the east hillside. Attended the "Shakespeare Club"- we read Act III of Othello- Had a very large attendance.
