Saturday, April 21st, 1882 Written May 8/83 Spent the forenoon in the office and running around, getting everything in shape for my departure this afternoon. Mr. A. J. Free and I had consultation and agreed upon preliminary articles for the formation of a law partnership about September 1st 1883. Home to dinner and packed my [volise?] Came over to town and closed up all business Mother and I took the afternoon train for Burlington Had nice lunch at West Liberty took 5.30 train for Burlington and had a pleasant run down.Mrs Crum and Morg Van Fleet were on the train. Reached Burlington at 8 o'clock and Chas met us at the depot. Rode up to Miss Lewis' and spent a short time chatting then to bed. Weather cool and cloudy with slight rain this afternoon.
Sunday, April 22nd, 1883 Had good nights rest- up and breakfasted at Sunderland's. Went down town and spent the forenoon in Chas' office, and walking about. Mother, Chas and I took dinner at Miss Lewis went down to the Harris House at 3 o'clock and had pleasant visit. Had supper here and spent the evening. Weather cloudy, dark and cold.
Monday, April 23, 1883 Weather fearfully bad this forenoon, cloudy and storm of sleet and snow from the N.E. After breakfast at Sunderland's, I went down to the office with Chas. Got my pass to Glenwood and return at the depot. Dined at the Harris House. Called on [Fabert?] and we revised Iowa City. Mother and I called at [Torney's and Talleits?] and took tea at the former place. Met Mr and Mrs Lane of Clyde, Kansas. Went down to depot and I took the 8.25 train for [Osceola?] Met Chas, Jack and his brother. Weather better this P.M.
