Tuesday, May 8th, 1883 Weather today cloudy and cool with rain at intervals- gloomy. Came to office and spent the forenoon.Hard at work writing up diary and making completion of redemption money on house and lots in Topeka Went down to Hatties and took dinner. visited a while- Baby as bright as a dollar. Came up and spent afternoon at work in the office writing. Home to supper. Put on old clothes and did milking. Spent a pleasant eve at home looking over old [illegible] and talking with the folks. Wednesday, May 4th, 1883 This is sister Hatties 26th birthday! Weather today has been warm and cloudy with heavy rains at intervals. Came directly to the office and spent forenoon writing business letters. Home to dinner. Spent afternoon in office writing letters, and remodeling my old Law Commencement Oration to read tonight. Hattie and the baby here to supper. Accompanied them home. Alex Sorter closed by the Sheriff today, and I telegraphed the fact to the Bradstreet Co. Home, dressed and attended the "Literary Club" at Mr Clute's. Had a very large attendance and pleasant session. I read my remodeled Oration in " The Spirit of American Law." Was elected President of the club. Home and to bed at 10.30 o'clock. Thursday, May 10th, 1883 A cool day, cloudy this forenoon, clear and bright tonight. Heavy rain storms last night. Spent the forenoon in the office at work and preparing to go away this afternoon. After dinner, did some running around. Left the city on the 3.45 train for [Lemo.?] Met Prof. Free at the depot at W. Liberty. I took tea and played all night with him. Had pleasant visit.
