Friday, May 11th, 1883 A heavy frost last night. The morning bright and clear but soon clouded up and is cold and rain with bleak wind in the N. Got breakfast at the Hise House. then took the morning train and reached Waterloo at 11 o'clock. Walked over to the East side and called on Mat Owens in his office. After dinner Mat got a rig and we rode down to the old place, and saw Minnie and the old folks. Called on Tilcombe's folks, aw Julia and Mrs T. and heard some music by Julia. In the eve Mat and I attended an entertainment at the Methodist church. Heard some good music, and Miss May Robinson gave me recitation. Took 11.20 train for Le Mass. A cold night. Saturday, May 12th, 1883 Riding all night. Got a little sleep by dozing in the seat. Took breakfast at Newell. Met Charlie Bond at Storm Lake. Reached Le Mass at 9.25. Soon joined the boy's office, and we proceeded to divide the Library and settle affairs up. Succeeded in arranging everything satisfactorily. Took a walk, after dinner at the Mickley House. Spent the afternoon hard at work packing Ottoes trunk and books, Did some running around. Visited with the Vogt boys. Met Henry and Hiram Hart and [Will?] Cotrell, Also Misses Cavanagh and Porter. Roseberry and I spent the eve very pleasantly at Jim Vogt's calling. Mrs Vogt was formerly Miss Minnie White- A fine eve. Sunday, May 13th 1883 A fearfully cold and rainy day with storm baiting down incessantly from the N.E. Staid in bed till noon. Spent afternoon reading at Y.M.C.A's Reading Room. Spent eve reading " A Fools Errant" in the office- A gloomy night.
