Thursday, May 17th, 1883 A cold, cloudy, and gloomy day, with rain and wind from the South East. Came to office and spent forenoon reading and writing. Home to dinner. Spent afternoon in office and down to the Court House. Nothing doing- a dull day. After supper put on old clothes, and with the help of Geo Day and [May?] hitched up my little mare "Nellie" and drove her around in the lot. Ott and I played a game of checkers this eve I beat the rubber. Read awhile and went to bed in good time. A gloomy night. Friday, May 18th,1883 A beautiful spring day, bright and warm. Came over to office and spent forenoon, reading and writing. Jake Lamb visited me, and I took him over to dinner. We visited the Law Dept on out way to town and had a chat with the chancellor. Read to Jacob my history of the [Symponian?] Society, Spent the afternoon in the office and work reading and making completion of redemption money, for 160 acres in Clark County. The boys planted early potatoes in the kitchen garden today. After supper. Geo Day and I hitched "Nellie" and "Charlie" to the wagon and drove out to the Back Pasture- Did milking and spent the eve pleasantly at home reading. Saturday, May 19th, 1883 A cool cloudy day with wind in the North. Came to office and spent forenoon reading and writing. Home to dinner. This afternoon, got $1.75 for Townley mortgage. Also made loan of $60 to Frank Hudler. After supper. go shave and attended [Erodelphian?] Society. Met Minnie and Clara [Towns?] and walked home with them. Jake Lamb here tonight.
