Friday, May 25th, 1883 A cloudy, cold and gloomy day. Raining this forenoon. Came to office and spent the forenoon at work reading, writing, and consulting. Home to dinner. Spent afternoon in the office and running around. Was at the Court House awhile. Had Ott's books brought up from the depot and unpacked them. After Supper put on old clothes and did the milking. At home, reading, tonight. To bed in good season. Saturday, May 36th, 1883 Weather today much more pleasant; a fine afternoon, but another rain storm tonight. Came to the office and spent the forenoon at work writing reading and in consultation. A.J. Free came in and I took him home to dinner. At 2 o'clock, I attended the Democratic County Convention to select delegates to the state convention. Was put on Com. to select delegates by Geo Boal, Chairman. Was Secy of Com. Was put on the delegation as a alternate. Spent bal of afternoon in office and running around. Was down to the Burlington Depot, and saw Kate Pentzer a moment. She was going up to Cedar Rapids to attend the Thomas concert. Took Free over to supper. Lizzie Lindley and Fanny Graham and the children there to supper. Walked over to the depot with Free via the hot house. Home juse in time to escape heavy rain. Spent eve pleasantly talking. Sunday, May 27th, 1883 Weather cool, changeable- come rain, a fine eve. Ott & I went out to W. farm driving "Charlie"&"Nell". Emme Weldy here to dinner. Found everything in good shape at the farm, and had talk with [Sangster?] on the way home, about old back pasture. Dressed and spent the afternoon at home. After supper, hitched "Charlie" to the Phaeton. Took Hattie and baby home. Called for Miss Lulu Gorton and we had a pleasant phaeton ride.
