Wednesday, May 30th, 1883. Decoration Day, but very little observance paid to it here.Came to office and spent forenoon at work reading and writing. After dinner Ott and I hitched "Charlie" and "Nellie" to the buck-board and rode out to Saugster's. Had a long talk with him and made him a proposition to buy the old back pasture. Spent the remainder of the afternoon in the office at work. Put on old clothes, and did some work in the garden. Also did the milking. They named Hattie's baby after me this eve- Robert Ross Whelstone- Spent eve at home reading.Thursday, May 31st, 1883 A fine, bright, and beautiful spring day. Came directly to the office, and spent the forenoon at work, and took answer of [Joe?] B. Miller as garnisher. Went down to the C.H. and from there home. Put on old clothes, and worked till supper time spading in the garden. After supper, same until 7.30 o'clock. Then dressed and called for Iowa. We attended the "Hespenian Special Programme", which was very good. Home at 10.30 o'clock and to bed. A fine eve.Friday, June 1st, 1883 Bright and warm this morning, cloudy this afternoon, and threatening rain tonight. Got the cows up and did the milking. Came over to office and spent the forenoon at work and at the Court House. Home to dinner. Worked in the office till 4 o'clock. Then went home and fixed up barn yard gates.
