Sunday, June 10th,1883 Another gloomy Sunday. Up late, read awhile, Then washed and dressed and read till dinner in the newspapers. At 3 o'clock went over and attended "Vespers" at the St. Mary's Church. Went down to Hattie's visited and took supper. Walked home with Mother. Came back and took a walk up to the Observatory. Attended the Presbyterian Church. A stranger preached a fair discourse on the text "Keep thy heart with diligence." Home- had a lunch and went to bed. Monday, June 11th, 1883 Grandmother's 81st birthday! It has been a warm summer day, but threatening a big rain storm again tonight. Came to office and spent forenoon, reading and writing. Home to dinner. Put my sign of "Lots for Sale" up and fixed fence. Came over and spent the afternoon reading and running around. after supper,dressed carefully and Ott and I escorted the Towns girls to Mrs. Berryhill's where we had some excellent music by Clara and [Will?] Berryhill. Home in haste to escape the impending rain. Collected $30 from the [Geohegans?] today. Wrote letters to Kate [Penlzer?].Inviting her up to attend the commencement [illegible] Tuesday,June 12th,1883 Cloudy and gloomy this morning. Cleared up this afternoon and is cooler. Came over to the office and spent forenoon reading and writing. After dinner, hitched "Charlie" and "Nell" to the double buggy, and drove down to the valley with Mother. We stopped awhile at Stevens and I took a look over the pasture. Went down to Grandmother's and took supper. Annie came up with us. Reached house at 9 o'clock. Roads rather muddy.
