Saving...
Saturday, June 16th, 1883 Came directly to the office and spent forenoon at work and running around. Weather cloudy and threatening rain, clearer and hotter this afternoon. a fine night but threatening rain. After dinner, went up to Court House and examined the records; also attended the County Republican Convention. Home at 4.50 o'clock and worked in the garden till supper. After supper, dressed carefully and called for Clara Towns to attend the party at Youngkin's. Went down to the Opera House and from there out to the party. It was a large and brilliant affair. Had some fine dances on the platform. Especially a splendid waltz with Ada Webb. Shook hands with Jennie Hanford, and had brief conversation with her congratulating her on her address last evening. Home about 1 o'clock, thoroughly tired out. Took down our stove and fixed office a little this morning. Mary Day came on the 8 o'clock train. Sunday, June 17th, 1883 Heavy rain last night, with thunder and lightning, and continuing this morning. Put on old clothes this morning and did the chores and milking. then washed and dressed, and read and napped till dinner time. After dinner read till 3.30 then got ready called for Clara Towns and we attended the [Baccalaureate?] Address by [Prest?] Pickard at the opera house. The house was crowded. The address was a practical talk on the importance of earnest effort in ones chosen profession. A heavy rain at 5 o'clock. Home to supper, and had a pleasant chat. Did chores and milking and to bed in good season.
