Got horses up and Lee and I started to the valley with 6 head of young cattle for the pasture- 5 steers and one heifer. Got them down there without much trouble. Looked after the pasture fence, and home in time fore a late dinner. Were shocked at the news from New York that cousin Gilead [Smith?] died last Monday, 18th [just?]. The former were victorious by 34 scores to 14. Home in a Sangsters taking his wire stretcher home.
