Then came over to the office, and stayed till 5 o'clock. Frank Hudler paid his loan $60.75 I paid to Dr Houser on J.W. Ordered our bill of lumber at the Iowa Lumber Co. Yards and nails at [Ed Shepards?] Tuesday, July 3rd, 1883 Two carpenters on hand this morning to begin framing summer kitchen. Mother and I came over to town this morning in the phaeton and got a load of provision and the nails for our building. Home and came over to the office where spent forenoon at work. Was also down to the C.H. a short time. After dinner watered the cattle. Then spent the balance of the afternoon at home watching the progress of our new summer kitchen, and assisting with the work. It has been a fearfully hot day. This afternoon the sun blazed down from an unclouded sky with terrible force. After supper read awhile in "superstition and force" Got the cows up and did the milking. McGovern bought the "Abbott heifer" for $35 to be delived when she calves and the milk is good. Two carpenters 1 day.
