Friday, July 6th, 1883 A hot day, threatening rain this eve, and a heavy rain at 9 o'clock. Did milking and worked awhile in the garden. Hitched "John D" to the Phaeton and brought mother over to town. Left her at Hatties and took some provisions home. Watered the stock after dinner, Then came to the office and wrote some personal letters and sent pictures to Mary Day, Kate Pentzer and Blanche McCollister. Home at 5 o'clock and worked awhile in the garden. After supper hitched "Nell" to the phaeton called for Clara Towns and we had a fine ride. Home just in time to escape the heavy rain Joe put up chimney for S.Kitchen today. Paid him $4.00 Carpenters one day putting on roof. Saturday, July 7th, 1883 Cool and cloudy with mist and slight rain. This eve clearer and delightfully cool & fine worked in the garden till 10 o'clock then came to office. Settled Paige vs Place mater [with?] Finch. Was at the Court House awhile Then home to dinner, spent afternoon in the office reading and writing. Engaged two men to quarry us out from our quarry 30 [perch?] of rock at 40 c per [perch?] Mason's measure in the Wall. Worked in the garden after supper. helped milk, washed and to bed. Sunday, July 8th, 1883 A bright and delightfully cool and pleasant today. Did milking, hitched "Pet" to the Phaeton and Mother and I rode up to the Paul's. Had a splendid dinner and pleasant visit. Rode up and saw Father's pasture lot and the pond. Came around by the prarie road via the W. Far, Attended the M.E. Church Rev Parson's talked on "Joshua" Home via Hatties and brought Mother home.
