Monday, July 9th, 1883 A bright cool and beautiful day, up early and did milking and chores. After breakfast Lee and I delivered to Durham at the Rock Island depot 4 hogs [illegible] 800lbs @ 5e=$40.00 Home and worked in the garden till noon. After dinner came to town and spent a busy afternoon at work in the office and running around. Got shave and home at 5 o'clock. Read till supper, Hitched "Nell" to the Phaeton and drove over to town with Iowa. Made a very pleasant call at Mrs Hudson's. Home at 10 o'clock and to bed. Settled up our meat bill today. Total= $53.45 Tuesday, July 10th, 1883 A severe rain storm this morning with sharp lightning and heavy thunder. Forenoon bright and warm, afternoon cloudy and cooler. did milking and worked awhile in the garden. Spent bal. of forenoon in office writing letters. Came to office after dinner and worked till 5 o'clock. Home and spent eve at work in the garden Two men working on the house and two began to tear the old barn down. 1/2 day Wednesday July 11 1883 A bright warm day and a busy one. Did milking, then worked till 11 o'clock working around the [barns?] Five men tearing down the old barn Tom Crowley and we boys clearing away rubbish [illegible] After dinner worked hard till 5 o'clock Then hitched Nell to the Phaeton and came over to town to hunt up a stone mason and get some [lime?] After supper came over and got some Ice cream. Home and dressed the "Literary Club" met at our house this eve- A very pleasant gathering. Escorted Mrs and Miss Gorton & Miss [Philbrick?] home.
