Thursday July 12th, 1883 Heavy rain last night, and another severe storm tonight. during the day hot and close Up early and put in hard forenoon's work helping about the barns. At 11 o'clock came over and got some lime. Five men at work raising up the old barn, "Jim" laying up the piers and Tom Crowley attending him. Spent the afternoon hard at work. Tore away the old steps on the N. hillside and hauled the plank up to the barn. Worked in the garden after supper, read awhile and went to bed in good season. 11th anniversary of our "Great Ex" Friday, July 13th, 1883 Weather bright and warm this forenoon. A rainy afternoon commencing at 2.30 o'clock. Helped Tom Crowley move rock and attend the mason till 11 o'clock. Then came over to town and did some writing. Ordered some barn boards and plank at the lumber yard after dinner spent he afternoon overseeing the work about the barn Spent the eve at home working in the garden and looking after "John D" To ed in good time. [Jim?] carpenters 2/3 of a day. Mason 1 day. Saturday July 14th 1883 Another heavy rain last night. Weather today bright and hot. "Jim" came over this morning and finished building piers under the old barn. I paid him $5.00. Came over to the office and did some writing. Ordered some lumber and hardware and home to dinner. Came over after dinner, and worked in office till 4 o'clock. Home via the Court House After supper, went over to get rent from Collins. Home and worked in the garden till dark.
