Saving...
Saturday, July 21st, 1883 A bright and very hot day, with high and dry wind from the South. a fine hay day. Did chores and milking. Raked up some hay. Came over to town and worked in the office till noon. Got shave and home to dinner. All hands got an early start into the hay field and did a big afternoon's work. Peter came down after the rake, and turned in and helped us after five o'clock. Got 5 big loads into the new barn. After supper, we drew another big load into the barn. We boys then worked till after 10 o'clock, putting up hay. 4 men on barn today. Sunday, July 22nd, 1883 Another bright and very hot day, threatening rain tonight. After doing the milking Ott and I put off the load we had in barn. Then washed and dressed and spent forenoon reading the [Herold?] Jeff McCollister here to dinner. Spent the entire afternoon delightfully at home reading, napping and lounging. After supper, Ott and I worked till dark putting up hay Lee did milking. A fine moonlight eve. Monday, July 23rd, 1883 This is Iowa's 32d birthday. We got to work at the hay this morning after doing the milking and chores and got 4 loads in stack. A slight rain at noon stopped us. After dinner I came over to town and paid up our lumber and hardware bills to date. Also Harry Smith for carpenter work on house and barn so far as we have gone. Wrote a letter to Iowa. Home at 5 o'clock and we got to hauling hay. Got one load in stack before supper, and two after. Arch helping us.
