Friday, July 27th, 1883 A heavy rain this morning Did milking and came over to town. Spent forenoon in office and running around. Got shave and home to dinner. After dinner Ott and I put the load of hay that I brought in last night in the bay.filling it up full. Hitched big team to the stone wagon and hauled up 3 load of rock, after taking some things to the blacksmith shop. After supper did chores and milking. Dressed carefully and called on Ada Webb. Had a pleasant evening with refreshments at [Wards?] Home at 11 o'clock and to bed. A fine eve. Ott started for Illinois tonight at 9 o'clock. Saturday, July 28th, 1883 A bright cool, pleasant day. Up early and did chores and milking. Hitched to the wagon and hauled up a load of rock. Came over to town in the Phaeton and took Harry Smith over to stake our foundations. After dinner, worked steadily at hauling rock and got up 5 loads. Hauled up one load after supper. Did milking and chores and read awhile. Began reading "Pascarel". Laborer one day. Paid him $2.00. Mrs [Jobez?] Stevens died today. Sunday, July 29th, 1883 Fine weather this forenoon, Clouded up and began raining at 3 o'clock A gentle quiet rain all the eve. Did morning work. Washed and dressed, and attended the Baptist Church. We had first young chicken of the season today- Mother, May and I only to dinner. Spent afternoon delightfully at home reading "Pascarel" and napping. Same this eve after chores, Mrs Stevens buried today.
