Thursday, August 2nd, 1883 A bright, but cool and pleasant day. Did chores and milking. Hitched to big wagon and hauled 4 load of rock this forenoon. After dinner hitched the colts to the double buggy, and brought Hattie and Edith over to [town?] Got 3 [illegible] line. Mr and Mrs Magill and Mrs Purcell at our house today. I drove out to the West farm in the buggy taking Mother and the two old ladies along. Had a pleasant drive. Found Peter cutting his oats. After supper, Lee hauled up a load of rock and I did chores and milking. Mr [Eicks?], who came down yesterday from Belle Plaine left this afternoon. Three years ago today since Ott and I started on our S.W. trip. Friday, August 3rd, 1883 Another bright, cool, and pleasant day. Did chore and milking. Helped haul up 2 load of rock. Making 37 loads in all. Got ready, and came over to the office, and spent bal. of forenoon reading and writing up accounts. Home at noon and found that Ott had returned. CAme back to town and got some lime. Went down into Crowley's quarry, and hauled up 3 loads of "[spolls?] for the approach to the barn. The masons finished up the foundation for the new part of the barn. Paid them $21.25- Did chores and milking and spent eve at home. Saturday August 4th 1883 A fine bright day, and sun shining very hot. Took big load of rock out to West Farm for new stable there. Had trouble with balky horse, "Kit." Home to late dinner. Another big load of rock this afternoon with big team. Peter finished cutting oats.[illegible] to town this eve. Got shave & wrote up accounts.
