Wednesday, August 8th, 1883 Raining a little this morning. Has been cloudy and threatening all day. Rain quite heavy at 4 o'clock. Did chores and milking. Then brought stuff over to repair House property. Left old wagon at Bergens for repairs. Hauled up load of [spolls?] with new wagon. Put on load of rock, which Ott took to West Farm. After dinner, dressed and Mother and I attended the funeral of Emma Hughes who died Monday morning. Home just in time to escape the rain. Spent bal. of afternoon reading. Came over to office after supper and wrote some letters. A cool eve. Thursday, August 9th, 1883 Cloudy and still threatening this morning. Warmer and drying off this afternoon. Did chores and helped with the milking. Came over and spent forenoon in office at work. Home to dinner. After dinner put on good load of rock and took it out to the West Farm. Roads very [slavish?]. Home in good season. After supper did chores and milking. Carpenters putting roof on new barn. Eight years ago tonight since I took Belle [Gay?] to Barnum's Hippodrome. Three years ago tonight Ott and I spent at Brewer's.Friday, August 10th, 1883 A bright hot day, with slight breeze in the N. A fine hay day. Did chores and helped with the milking. Worked awhile, then came over to office and wrote up accounts [illegible]. Home and watched carpenters build barn till noon. Ordered bill of lumber after dinner. Then took big load of rock to the West Farm. Home and did chores. Mother and Lee to the valley today.
