Saturday, August 11th, 1883 A busy day. weather bright and hot but threatening a storm tonight. Up early did chores came to town and got repaired wagon rigged up two hay wagons and Lee and I went out to the W. farm and brought home two loads of hay. Home at 2 o'clock. Put hay in loft of new barn. Ott and Lee started out at 4 o'clock, and got home with two more loads at 8 P.M. One of which we put off. At 4 o'clock I came to town and worked in office till 6. Paid at Lumber yard $100. To Harry Smith $100, Hardware bill to date $11.32. Took supper at Hattie's. Got shave. Home and did milking, and helped with the hay. Sunday, August 12th, 1883 A cool, bright and beautiful day. Helped with chores, and Ott and I put off a load of hay. Washed, dressed, and read till dinner in the Herold. Spent the afternoon delightfully at home swinging in the hammock, napping and reading "Pascaral" AFter supper, called on Clara Town's and we took a long walk over by the Rock Island depot. Had some ice-cream at Ward's. Listened to some fine music. Home at 10 o'clock and to bed. A fine eve. Monday, August 13th, 1883 A fine bright warm day. Helped with the chores and milking. Then got the boys started to the farm with both wagons loaded with barn timbers. Came to town and got some nails. Came over again and spent forenoon in office at work reading Fathers abstract of Fountain case and writing. The boy's two loads of hay. Ott and I went out this afternoon and got back late with two loads which we out into the new barn. 5 carpenters at work today.
