Tuesday, August 14th, 1883 Cool and cloudy this morning began raining at noon and drizzled awhile. Then cleared up, and has been a fine evening. Did chores and helped with the milking. Went out to the West Farm and got the balance of our hay in the North Slough. Aunt Melinda Adams and Mrs Holsen here to dinner. Put off load after dinner and worked around the barn awhile. Then came over to town and did some writing. Home early. After supper hitched to the Phaeton and Mr Clute and I rode up to Chandlers to attend the Literary.Small attendance and dull times- Brought Miss [Nedofity?] home- Hattie and the children over today. Wednesday, August 15th, 1883 A bright pleasant day, and cool delightful evening. Did chores and milking. Got ready came over to town and spent a busy forenoon at work in office and running around. Renewed out insurance of $5000 today to run for 5 years. Contracted with Collier and Heusel to paint the new barn one coat of red and trim it up white for $35. After dinner decided on the shade of color and the boys went to work on the job.Came over to office and wrote letters. Got sec.III- "Masterpieces of French Art" today. Did chores and spent eve pleasantly at home. Thursday, August 16th, 1883 A bright warm day, and hot eve. After doing chores we three boys loaded up two loads of roofing and started for West Farm. Had trouble with one load. Brought home two loads hay. Home late. Chored around this afternoon. Did milking. The boys all down to Aunt Eve's to a party. Iowa and I attended a "musicale" at [illegible]
