Monday, August 20th, 1883 Weather cool and fine, and beautiful sunset tonight, Did chores and helped with the milking. Loaded up load of rock which Lee took to the West Farm. Came over to town, worked awhile in the office, and purchased some nails to take home. At noon we put horses in the new barn. Took "Charlie" in first. After dinner, watered the cattle and helped Lee load up a load of rock which he took to the W. farm. Came over to town and did some writing in office. Home and did chores after supper. The carpenters 3 in number, practically finished the new barn today. "Spot" cow sick today. Tuesday, August 21st, 1883 A bright, hot day and dust very deep. Did chores and milking. Loaded up a big load of rock and took same to the farm. Home via the lower road. After dinner took another big load out. Home at 5.30 o'clock. Did chores and [dressed?] for supper. Nora Sale and Clara [Remley?] here to tea, and we had a pleasant visit afterwards. Took the girls home to Remleys at 10 o'clock. Home, got "John D" up and to bed. A fine moonlight night but very warm. The painters finished the barn. Also painted gutters of house. Paid them 14.25 Wednesday, August 22nd, 1883 A bright fine day, with strong cool wind in the N. Ottoe took load of rock to the farm this morning. I helped Lee skin "Spot" who died last night. Came to office and did some work. Ott another load this afternoon. I spent afternoon in office, and running around. Mr and Mrs Parsons calling this eve. We boys attended "Primary" at Coralville Frank Fletchter "[illegible]" the same. Lou Cottrell married this eve at 8 o'clock.
