Thursday, August 23d, 1883 A hot day, the sun very bright and dust deep. Helped with mowing work. Got a late start and went out to the West Farm with load of rock. The boys went out with both beams this afternoon. Ott broke his wagon and rode horses home. I worked about home all afternoon. The carpenters are fixing the old smoke house for an out door wood-house. Frank Wilson setting posts 1/2 day. Did chores and doctored sick colt. A fine cool evening. To bed in good season. Friday, August 24th, 1883 Another hot day, and very dry and dusty. Ott took team and went out to the West Farm with a load of rock. I worked awhile about the barns. Then came over to town did some writing in the office, and took some nails home. With May's help, build new fence along North side of hog lot. After dinner Ott and I put in a hard afternoon's work, fixing hog lot and barn yard fences. Did chores and doctored sick colt. Got ready and came over to town. Got a shave, and attended the Democratic Primary at the Court House. Home read awhile and to bed. Three carpenters fixing woodhouse today. Saturday, August 25th, 1883 Lee took a load of rock to the West Farm this forenoon. Ott and I did chores and milking and spent the forenoon fixing fences. After dinner, dressed and attended the Democratic Convention. A large and enthusiastic assembly. Bloom nominated for Senator. Gil Fletcher for Sheriff. Worked in office awhile. Clara and Minnie Towns took tea with us. We had a game of whist some fine music and a pleasant time. Ott and I escorted the girls home.
