Wednesday, August 29th, 1883 Another hot day, and roads horribly dusty. Threatening rain tonight. Did morning work. Worked awhile on the barn yard fence. Then came over to the office. Had a settlement with the quarry man for rock Also a long talk with Auntie Walker. Home and read till noon. Spent the afternoon at work on the barnyard fence. Aunt Linda and Emma were here to dinner. Ott and I worked on fence after supper, and did chores and milking. Mr Green engaged to put the cows in pasture. Thursday, August 30th, 1883 A hot day and threatening rain again tonight. Did some milking and morning chores. Then worked till 11 o'clock picking up around the barns, and completing the barn yard fence. Came over to the office a short time before dinner. After dinner, worked till 3 o'clock about the barns . Sharpened the ax and Lee and I went out to the bark pasture and got some sticks of timber. Spent evening at home. Ott attended ball game this afternoon. Ten years ago tonight since Chas Hattie and I attended the dance at Aunt Sarah's. Friday, August 31st, 1883 A hot cloudy day. With slight sprinkle of rain this forenoon. We boys helped put the old roofing on the buggy house this forenoon. After dinner I walked out to the back pasture and cut some white oak timber. The boys brought the team out and we hauled a good load in. Came over to town and got shave. Iowa had party of young ladies to tea this eve. I escorted the crowd home. Read awhile and to bed in good season- This closes the month of August. It has been a month of very hard work.
