Saturday, September 1st, 1883 A very busy day commences the new month. The weather has been hot and dry and the dust terribly bad. Did morning chores and worked at picking up trash until 9 o'clock. Came over to town and worked in the office till noon. Borrowed $500 of Aunt Linda at 8% until 1884. Home to dinner accompanied by Aunt Lina and Mr Edwards a student who wishes board. Attended the Republican Co. Convention a short time. L. Parsons nominated for Senator. Spent the balance of the afternoon in the office and running around paying up bills. Paid the Lumber bill in full. Home and after supper worked till dark picking up around the barns. Sunday, September 2nd, 1883 A bright day, with cool fine breeze in the North. Did morning work and chores up in good shape. Then washed and dressed and spent forenoon reading. Mother and Father took dinner at Hatties. After good dinner at home and napping. At 5 o'clock, walked over to town and called a few moments at Mrs Gortons Talked with Peter Miller about boring out the well on the west farm. Home to supper late. Iowa and I attended the M.E. Church. Rev Parsons preached on Prohibitions vs License.Monday, September 3rd, 1883 A bright beautiful day. Ott went over to the office this morning to take charge of the business there. I am to take charge of our family affairs and property. Delivered 1/2 cord of wood to Joe Sterrett. Dressed and came to town Ott and I had a settlement as to books. [illegible] I made a load of rock to the W. farm this afternoon, and did chores tonight.
