Saturday, September 22nd, 1883 Raining this morning, and has been a dull, gloomy day, drizzling most of the time. Did morning work. Then husked tied, and hung up seed corn. Dressed and came to town after dinner. Talked with Mr Cannon in reference to sale of part of homestead. Sent off drafts to Morsman $50. To Flickinger to pay costs in U.S. Court $24.05. To Merritt Sears in Place matter 37.30.Collected interested for Hattie from Hen Karns $2.00 and paid her. Home to supper. Did chores and spent the eve reading. Got word today that the Sup. Ct. had overuled our petition for rehearing on the Fountain case. Too bad. Too bad. Sunday, September 23d, 1883 Weather today cloudy, cool and gloomy. Ott did the milking and I the other chores. Dressed came over to the office and finished writing up diary. Attended the Episcopal Church.and heard a rather patriotic sermon by rev. Bell. Home and was surprised to fine Henry Pomory at our house. He stayed to dinner and spent the afternoon. I remained at home reading and resting. At 5 o'clock did chores and milking. Spent the eve pleasantly at home. Hattie over this afternoon. Monday, September 24th, 1883 Cloudy and showery. Up very early and drove out to the farm in the buggy with a laborer. We got to work at excavating for barn base. Went, Peter helping I drove home to dinner. Got some lien (5 bu.) and went out again taking Iowa out to May [Lorthrop's?] Went on out to the farm and we finished in good season. Stopped at May's and had good supper. Home, dressed and came to town. Called at Hatties.
