Friday, September 28th, 1883 Threatening rain this morning and very cold and damp, but it has been a lovely autumnal day. Up early and got men out to the farm in good season. Home and hauled out a load of rock. After dinner made another load. Brought the men home and three sacks of seed corn which I had gathered. After supper spent eve at home reading Elliot. Saturday, September 29th, 1883 Another cool, damp morning, and lovely day after the sun got up. I took men out to the farm early. Then hauled a load of rock for house foundation (first load for house delivered yesterday) After dinner Lee and I fenced stacks at home. Dressed and came to town in buggy. Witnessed successful balloon assention with gas balloon. Town crowded with people. Got buggy neckyoke fixed. Home and at 5 o'clock went to farm in buggy after the men. Paid masons $10. and laborer $5 tonight. Mollie Templin Tuck visiting this afternoon and took tea. After supper dressed and came to town. Got shaved. Home and to bed. Sunday, September 30th, 1883 A fine bright day, but cool wind from the N. Ott did the milking and I attended to the chores. Dressed and came over to the office where I wrote till church time. Attended the M.E. Church and heard a fair sermon by Rev Collins of [Galesburg?] Watered the cattle when I came home. Spent the afternoon walking about the grove, and reading at home. Turned the cattle into the meadow this eve. Greased the wagons and did chores.
