Monday, October 22d, 1883 A bright fun day.Up early, although not feeling well, and got Joe Sterrett and his man started to the farm to paint the new barn. Did chores and spent the forenoon at work on division fence between us and Cannon. Over to town after dinner and had tooth fixed. Jeff Bright at work this afternoon, fixing windows [illegible] Made extra trip to town from shutter hinge. Stopped hog hols in division fence. Did chores. The painters home late. Spent eve at home reading. Am not at all well. Tuesday, October 23rd, 1883 Sick today with bad billious attack- Did morning work and spent forenoon in the house- Over to town after dinner and had consultation with Dr. Moon- Saw "Uncle Tom's Cabin" parade- Grand- double- Mammoth [illegible] A great fraud. Home and did evening work. Too ill to attend the Literary Meeting at Hattie's. Iowa and Ottoe attended- I was elected president. Spent the eve pleasantly at home alone- reading "Adam Bede". A bright pleasant day, but cool. A fine eve. Ott making preparations to go to Washington Co. Wednesday, October 24th, 1883 Sick in the house all day, except looking after the chores- A dark, damp, nasty day. Ott in Washington attending Court. Returned this eve. Thursday, October 25th, 1883 Another gloomy day. Still sick but able to get about a little. Came to town and got mail. Shave and home at noon. Saw "Buffalo Bill" parade. Rather grotesque. Walked down to Holsan's and saw sham performances at Fair ground. Did chores & at home tonight- Missed Shakespeare Club.
