Friday, October 26th, 1883 Another cloudy and cool day allthough the morning gave promise of a fine day. Took 7 young steers ( 4-2yr white 1-3yr White. 1- roan 1 spotted) and 2 hiifers ( 1 roan-1 white face &bob tail) to the W.F. Ott helped to cross roads. Dressed and came to town after dinner. Spent bal. of afternoon & eve at home reading "Adam Bede". Finished same this eve. Thoroughly dissatisfied with latter part. Have not felt well today. Had to give up reception of Dr Moon's in account off illness. Ott Engaged boy to do chores [illegible] at $10 per month. Saturday, October 27th, 1883. Began raining this morning and has kept up the drizzle all day. A gloomy disagreeable time. Did morning work and set the boy to husking corn. Dressed came over to the office, and did some writing. Went down to Hatties and took dinner. Worked in the office, writing up correspondence and getting my papers together for trip to the S.W. Sent Father $200 of Mothers money to redeem Kansas land. Home early and spent bal. of afternoon in doors. Helped water the stock, and looked after the chores. Spent snug eve at home reading. Sunday, October 28th, 1883. Up late and looked after the chores. Found the colts out and in mischief- one of them badly cut on wire fence. Got them into the pasture and fixed up fence. In doors reading "Scarlet Letter" most of day. Geo Pinney over this afternoon to sew up cuts in colt. Dressed before supper, but did no attend Church. Washed and rad "Scarlet Letter" till bed time- Finished same- A gloomy eve.
