Monday, October 29th, 1883 At home in forenoon repairing stock yard fence &c Afternoon in town preparing to go West. Paid lumber bill and hardware bill in full out of Mother's funds. Paid Auntie Walker $20 interest on Kansas loan. Paid Joe Sterrett $2.32 in full of cash for painting. Spent eve at home reading and packing valise. Iowa and Ott to the Theatre "Josiphene Riley". A fine day & eve. Tuesday, October 30th, 1883. Weather bright and fine but cool. Up at 6 O'clock. Got lunch and rode over to the depot with Frank Fletcher. Took morning train west on the Rock Island and reached Des Moines on time. Sattie Hart and Seth went to D.M. on the same train on their way home. Got hasty lunch (5c) and went South on the Narrow Guage road. Had tedious run, on mixed train and got to Osceola at 7 P.M. Fare $1.80. Got supper at Kohler house. Saw Chaney and got from him letter from Chas containing a mileage ticket on C.B & Q. Put up at the "Kohler". Wednesday, October 31st, 1883. A busy day. After breakfast at Kohler House I wrote some letters. At 9 O'clock attended at the Referee's Office - J.D Laws - and submitted over testimony in the Dean Case. Mitchell not there to submit his evidence. Left for Leon in a Decatur City at 11.20. Car got off the track and made some delay. Got lunch at Leon. Then called on Parrish and we went over old cost bills and I paid them up in full - $8.30. Took supper with Parrish and left for Mt Ayr at 6.40 Reached here at 8.30 and put up at the Ellis House. Could not find Mount, so went to bed early. Roomed with a bro. of Will Skinner. A fine evening.
