Sat. Decr 8th 83. Clear and rather cold, with wind in N.W. Frozen up. After chores, boy and I to Coralville and got 2 loads Wallnut lumber. Gave my hand a bad scrape at noon, Dressed and came to town. Paid D. Steinwell $4.45- in full for wagon repairs- neckyokes &c. Paid Frank Fletcher $3.00 on Lee ap. for current year. Wrote in office- Home at 4 P.M. and helped put off load of wallnut lumber- At home tonight reading. Sun. Decr 9th.83. A fine bright day and beautiful eve. Did chores and got red bull out of Huffman's corn field. Dressed and read till dinner. Spent afternoon indoors. Iowa and I attended M.E. Church Rev Parsons preached a weak sermon- Glorious sunset. Mon. Decr 10th 83. Weather mild and roads slavish. Boy and I to valley timber with both teams. Worked at brush on W side of road and brought two loads of wood (one cordwood) home. [Nitcher?] boys hauling for Albert Tyler got two loads corewood. Tuesday, Decr. 11th 83. Weather fine, but roads heavy. Boy and I to timber with both teams. Worked at the brush and brought two loads of wood home. [Nitchers?] 2 loads cordwood. One paid me $1.50 pd to Geo F [Nillie?] $1.00 for cord of wood- Fine moonlight night. Wed. Decr 12th 83 Another fine day and beautiful eve. Boy and I to valley with both teams. Cleared brush and burned same. Brought 2 loads wood home. [Nitcher?] & Tyler each a load of cordwood. N. pd $2.75 & T. pd. $4.00 on a/c. To town and got shave after supper. Attended Shakespeare Club. Reading "King John" Had short session. Then all attended Judge Love's lecture on "Shylock" in Zet Hall- First rate escorted Miss Chandler home to Miss Winchester's.
