Tues. Decr. 25 1883. Had toothache last night, slept but little and have felt badly all day. Left side of face badly swollen. In doors till noon. Chas came up on 11 o'clock train. Rode to town and got shave. Took nap after supper. Dressed for the party. Ott brought my ladies. The misses Hudson in the cutter. The party was a splendid one and all seemed to enjoy it immensely. I was sick all the eve, but kept up. Had some good dances. The company dispersed at 2 A.M. Ott and Chas saw my ladies home. Weather delightful. A perfect Christmas morning-day bright and evening pleasant. Recd Christmas tokens this a.m. Wed. Decr 26th 83. Up late, feeling no better. Let Joe Huffman have 1/2 cord wood out of wood yard on promise of replacing it. Helped with feeding. Started boy to valley and took "Jim" to shop to be shod. To town and did some writing in office. Chas started to Burlington at 3 o'clock. Spent eve at home, reading and doctoring for a cold I have- Heavy snow storm this eve.Thurs. Decr 27th 83. Bitter cold this morning and N.W. wind. After late breakfast, came to town. Down to Hatties a short time. Decided to send in application for Superintendency of City Schools. Home, and spent afternoon and evening at home reading and doctoring for cold and billiousness. Have not been at all well today. Friday. Decr 28th 83. A bright find day. To town forenoon and sent in application for Superintendent of Schools. Got letter from Father announcing chance for newspaper enterprise at Topeka- Afternoon and eve at home, doctoring. Ott & Iowa to Holson's taking Lu Gorton with them for me. Jennie Hauford's birthday.
