Sat. Jany 5th 84. Mother's 58th Birthday. Weather still cold but moderating. Spent forenoon at home doctoring and reading. Afternoon, over to town and did writing in office. Spent eve at home reading and talking in family. Sun. Jany 6th 84. A wintry day. Spent entire day and evening in doors doctoring for cold, and reading a little. Elmer Anderson and [Jno?] Steven's began boarding with us today. Fire in M.E. Church. Mon. Jany 7th 1884- Written May 8th 1884. Still sick and remaining indoors. Weather cold. Ott started for Topeka at 3.45 to take a position on the 'Kansas State Journal" Tuesd Jany 8th 1884. Sick and indoors. Weather cold. Cousin George Corwine started for house today via Burlington. Wed. Jany. 9th 1884 Sick and in doors all day. Weather cold and raw. Thurs. Jany 10th 1884. Worse today and confined to my bedroom. Fri. Jany 11th 1884. Iowa, Hattie and the children started to Burlington on the 3.45 train. Was very sick tonight. Sat. Jany 13th 1884. A gloomy and tedeous day. Sick in bed all day. Mon. Jany 14th, 1884. Still unable to get out of my room. The folks came up from Burlington tonight. Tues. Jany 15th 1884. Iowa home this morning. In doors all day. Wed. Jany 16th 1884. Confined to my room all day. Dr. Moon visited me.
