Fri.April 25th, 1884. Bro Chas' 37th Birthday. We went out to the "West End" on the [Illegible] train at 10 o'clock A delightful resort and glorious view of the Lake- Lunch $1.00 Had a very pleasant day. Back to the City, and dined. Spent the eve looking a children's train way and sitting on front verandah. Met Chas. [Heezner?] in the park- A beautiful day and evening. Sat. April 26th Breakfasted and took a look through "Washington Armory." Went out to the "Spanish Fort" on the [illegible]. This is where Beinville first landed in 1718. Saw the foundations of the old fort and two old cannon. We lunched and had quite a pleasant day. Dined and walked about a little. To bed early tired out. A fine warm day but windy. Sun. April 27th A fine day tempered by a fresh breeze from the river. J.N. Clark called after breakfast. Walked down to "Jackson Park" Visited the "French Market" and got cup of coffee. Rode out to the "Nation Barracks" and met Liet-Thurston- A beautiful place- Walked down along the levee a mile and a half to the "National Cemetary" and Jackson Battle Ground. Saw the old embankments and relics. Walked up to Barracks and rode to the city. Had beefsteak at a restaurant. Wrote letters home. Got telegram from Ott to stay longer on account of cold weather month- Threatening rain tonight. Mon. April 28th A bright warm day, with fine breeze from the river. Breakfasted and went out to Carrollton. Back to our room at noon.
