Sat. May 17th, 1884. A bright and very hot day. Walked over and spent forenoon in office. Helped water stock- Rode over on horse- back and spent two hours in office. Ott left on 3.45 train for Burlington, on his S.W. trip. Got dish of ice-cream at Wards. Rode home, and read in Byron. Ed Mc here to supper. Old German finished plowing corn ground and is [illegible] the same. Quietly at home tonight reading. Sun. May 18th A pleasant day but threatening rain some what all day. Not feeling so well this morning as usual. Spent the day in the house reading, and walking about a little. Lee to the valley and brought Iowa and May home. Hattie, John and the children over this afternoon and stayed to supper. Mon. May 19th Some rain last night, and today has been a bright and beautiful day. Came to office and spent forenoon reading and writing. Home to dinner. Walked over after dinner and spent two hours in the office. Went down to Hattie's and took tea. We walked up town after wards. On way home. I heard the Muscatine Band play, and saw the running team run. Home and read in Byron. A beautiful eve. Tues. May 20th Spent most of forenoon in office reading. Rode after dinner, and was in office for two hours. Home and read till supper in Byron. A beautiful eve- spent at home. Wed. May 21st A bright warm day, wind in S. Spent forenoon in office. Rode out to back pasture after dinner and then to town. Home not feeling well; Hattie and the children over- Threatening rain tonight.
