Tues, May 27th 1884. A most beautiful day. Came to office at 10 o'clock. Ott home at 11. Went down to Hattie's and took dinner. Spent the afternoon in office till 4 P.M. then walked home. Herman left this morning. Paid him $6.00 Spent eve pleasantly at home reading Byron. Lee took 6 load of cattle to the Valley pasture. Wed. May 28th. Cold raw wind from the N.E. but the day has been bright and clear. Walked over to office- very imprudently for the cold wind gave me a cold. Home at noon. Spent the afternoon at home, lying down most of the time. Not feeling at all well tonight. Thurs May 29th Weather milder then yesterday, but wind still raw and cold from East. Rode "Nell" over to town before dinner and engaged McElroy to do some work for us. He came this afternoon and worked half day. At 4 o'clock same over to the office and did some writing. Went down to Hattie's and took supper. A beautiful evening! Fri. May 30th Decoration Day. Did some measuring on hedge row line of fence. Rode John D over to town and order over some lumber. Home and read law (parsons N&B) till noon. Spent the afternoon pleasantly at home reading and resting, and keeping house, while all the folks went over to see the parade. McElroy 1 day. Paid him $1.00 Weather bright and very warm. Sat. May 31st A bright fine summer day. Spent forenoon in office. Afternoon at home reading and resting. Took a fine horseback ride after supper. McElroy 1 day. Pd him $2.75
