Friday. June 20th 1884. an intensely hot day, threatening rain but it did not come. Rode over to town and spent a short time in office. Home and dozed till dinner. Read after dinner. At 4 P.M. Mother and I rode out to Hattie Stagg's in the Phaeton. Did not fine them at home but got some strawberries. Also some chewy bark. An intensely hot close night. Saturday, June 21st Longest day in the year. Weather hot and dry. Spent forenoon in office at work. Afternoon and evening at home reading. Emma Weldy and Ray here to dinner and spent the afternoon. Sun, June 22d Eighth anniversary of my graduation form the Academic Dept. [illegible] At home all day loafing and reading. Weather intensely hot with heavy rains. Hattie, John and the Children over all day. Mon. June 23d A hot close, murky day with rain almost constantly. At home all day reading Tenneyson & Law. Tues. June 24th Cloudy and cool this morning. Walked over and spent forenoon in office. Down to Hatties to dinner. Spent the afternoon there. Intensely hot up till 5 o'clock. Walked home to supper Lee brought cattle up from the Valley this afternoon. Wed. June 25th Cloudy and very cool. Walked over to office. Helped folks select carpet for dinning and sitting room at Lightmen's. Rode home in the Phaeton with Mother. After dinner Mother and I rode out to Fletcher's to see about cherries. Got 1/2 bushel. Rode up in Dutch town and got 1/2 bu. more. Had fine ride. Virgil Hartstock took "Jim" horse to work through harvest at $1.25 per week.
