Wednesday, July 2d 1884. Weather intensely hot. At home all day till 4 o'clock; then rode over to town with mother and made some purchases, and engaged some raspberries. After supper Iowa and I rode over to town in the Phaeton. Home, put the horse out and went to bed. A beautiful evening. Thurs. July 3d A bright day with fine breeze in SE. Ott and I rode over to town in Phaeton. Happened to be near the depot when the 11 o'clock train came in. Rode over and very fortunate met Father. Took him home. Spent the afternoon and evening at home reading. Fri. July 4th The Glorious Fourth! Cool and pleasant this forenoon, hot this afternoon and a heavy rain tonight. Walked over to town and saw the Parade, which was fair Walked home. The valley folks all brought their lunch baskets over, and we had a splendid dinner spread in the dining room. All enjoyed it There were about 40 here. Spent afternoon visiting with the folks, of whom a number stayed. Chas & Ed Mc stayed all night. Sat. July 5th Weather unseasonably cool with strong breeze in the N.W. Drove over to town in the double buggy with Mother and we got two bushels of raspberries. Home and spent the afternoon reading and resting. A cool night. Finished "Vol I- Parsons on Notes & Bills ". Arch back this eve. Sun. July 6th A cool fine day. Spent forenoon at home. After dinner Father, Mother, May, Ott and I took ride out to the West Farm. Had fine ride. Ott and Father start for Chicago tonight to attend the Convention.
