Sunday, July 13th, 1884. A bright cool day, with fine bracing breeze from the North. Spent forenoon at home. After dinner Mother and I rode out to Fletcher's and also all over town in search of a hired girl. Hattie and John with the children were over to tea. Spent evenings at home. Monday, July 14th Forenoon to town in Phaeton and made preparations for trip North. After dinner over to the depots with Ott to see about ticket &c. Home and rested till supper. Iowa and I got ready, rode over to the Rock Island depot in the Phaeton and got off on the 8 o'clock train. Got round trip tickets at Liberty Could get in a sleeper and had to ride all night in crowded coach. Hard trip. Lee at work in hay field. Three men helping him this afternoon. First hay in barn. Weather hot but a cool nice eve. Tues. July 10th 84. Albert Lea at 7 o'clock and got a good breakfast- Minneapolis at 11.30 A.M. Lunched and out to Minnetonka Beach at 3 P.M. Rode across to Excelsior in "Belle of Minnetonka" and put up at Exclsior House. Got good supper and spent eve resting. Cloudy and cool this morning but clear and bright this eve. Wed. July 16th, 84 Made grand excursion of the lake in the steamer " City of St Louis" Lunched on board Rather too cool for pleasant boat riding. Back at 3 P.M. and rested until supper. Made arrangement for board at $11.00 per week pd $11.00. Thurs. July 17th Rain last night and a gloomy forenoon Wrote letters and lounged about Hotel. Took a little walk. Music and dancing this eve.
