144 Tuesday December 7th 1886. Mother went to town early in the morning. I was busy about the work most of the day. I did not feel very well, think I must have taken a little cold last night sitting in the parlor. Will was about the place all day. Weather more pleasant. Wednesday December 8th 1886. I was busy about the house all the forenoon, and just as dinner was ready Emma Weldie came. I went to town with her and down to Hatts. Will came over for supper and spent the evening. Will hauled a load of oats today. Weather much milder. Thursday December 9th 1886. I ironed today but did not get it all done till after noon. About three oclock I went to town to change my shoes. I worked a little in the evening and read aloud some. Will hauled the rest of the oats today. The roads are getting muddy. We had a letter from Maggie Duncan Stewart today. Friday December 10th 1886. Will and I went out to Em Weldies today. It took a greater part of the time to come and go the roads were so bad. When we got home we found Hatt here. She stayed till bed-time. Will went over to get shaved and came back with John when he came for Hatt. We had a letter from Mary Woolf, she is coming the 23rd. Saturday December 11th 1886. We got up early and about nine oclock were ready to start down to Aunt Melindas to a quilting party. Ott went to Oxford on the early train. Will took Mother Hatt & I in the double buggy. The relations were all there and we had a splendid time, the weather was remarkably fine. I read some in the evening. Sunday December 13th [12th] 1886. The Whetstones family were over for the day. I wrote to Charlie and a long letter to Sue Reed. In the evening I read aloud to Will in Daniel Deronda. Weather pleasant. Monday December 14th [13th] 1886. We did a large washing before noon. Mother was in town all the afternoon. I cleaned up the house and worked some on the lace for Ida side-board scarf. Weather cloudy. I read aloud to Will most of the evening.
