Friday April 27th 1888 It was a warm morning threatening rain. I burned some leaves in the yard and Mother and I did some work in the berry bushes. I sewed a little in the afternoon. We had a nice shower but it cleared of so the girls went to town just before supper. I sewed in the evening. Saturday April 28th 1888 Will and I went to town ealry this morning in the phaeton and brought home a couple of cherry trees to set out. Will was not busy and I had Joe doing work about the place most of the day. Mother and Fanny were over town in the forenoon. I sewed some in afternoon and evening. Lee got home from the north last night. It began to rain early in the evening. Sunday April 29th 1888 It was a rainy day. I was busy most of the forenoon with the dinner and in the afternoon I wrote a long letter to Mary Woolf and in the evening to Charlie. Monday April 30th 1888 It was still gloomy and raining slightly Anna and I gave the house a good cleaning up and I did some baking I was working about the chicken yard some in the afternoon Will went to town in the evening I finished heming some napkins and began to read "Around the world in eighty days." Tuesday May 1st 1888 It was a bright morning and we did a large washing by eleven oclock. Soon after dinner I got ready and went to town. And the girls came over later. I paid the bill at Heinmans and got a new wringer. I met the girls and went with them to look at Hatts new carpet. I had only just got home when it began to rain. The girls got all wet coming over John did not come home as Dr Merry died suddenly this afternoon and he was doing things for the family. [the following sentance is written vertically in the right margin of the entry for Tuesday May 1st] Mrs. Taylor put cow in pasture today. Wednesday May 2nd 1888 I helped Anna and she [she is scratched out] we got the morning done by ten oclock. Hatt and Mother were over town all the afternoon I was working with chickens some and mended the clothes and put them away. was tired and went to bed early.
