Thursday, May 3rd, 1888 We did another large washing this forenoon. And ironed all the things in the afternoon. Father went over to bring Serety [aka Sarah born in Ohio in 1854, wife of John Walker of Fremont Twp, Johnson County, Iowa, as per census of 1880] Walker for a visit and soon came back with Serety Holmes. She had come in unexpectedly from the east last night. [the following line is written in the right margin of the above entry] A storm tonight at five oclock. Friday May 4th 1888 I went to town this morning and Mother and Anna had dinner nearly ready when I come home. The folks all went to Dr Merrys funeral in the afternoon. I was sewing some for Mary. I read most of the evening. Saturday May 5th 1888 I was working out in the yard some in the morning with Mothers help and did my baking before noon. Anna and the girls were in town in the afternoon and Mother and I were busy at home. Will went to town in the evening. Sunday May 6th 1888 I was busy about the work all the forenoon. I got the dinner as all the rest of the folks went to church. I slept awhile in the afternoon and Will went to town. We were going to church in the evening but it rained and I wrote to [?ene?] Monday May 7th 1888 It was a rainy day and I did some baking and some mending. I knit a little in the evening. The men could not work. Will is forty years old today. Tuesday May 8th 1888 weather still gloomy and rainy I sewed what time I had to spare from doing the house work. Wednesday May 9th 1888 This is Hatties birthday she is thirty one years old It was a rainy day. Will went to the valley and got a load of oats. I sewed what time I had to spare from the work. Will went to town in the evening. Thursday May 10th 1888 It was a nice day and we got the washing done Elmer Anderson was here for dinner and Aunt Melissa come for a visit. I was looking after my chickens some. Mrs Custer and Nellie called in the afternoon. It began to rain again in the evening.
