of our Corps lay quiet all night, the first night's rest we have had in a long time, very warm today. Saturday July 2d,, 1864 I am detailed for picket this morning and remain on all day continual Skirmishing all day with someCcannonaiding relieved from Skirmish line and went back to the line of Battle lay quiet all night, some indication of the Enemy retreating, a Canon is fired all night once in about fifteen mlnuets. Sunday July 3d,, 1864 This morning the Rebels have retreated and we start in persuit, pick up a great many deserters, some one hundred and fifty come into our Brigade, so many less to fight. follow on after the Rebels about five miles with continual Skirmishing, very warm Monday July 4th,, 1864 Lay quiet all day some Skirmishing and continual Canonaiding today, the Enemy in a Strong position but are reported falling back. Tuesday July 5th,, 1864 The Enemy fell back to the River last night about six miles. We followed on in persult & shelled them in the Afternoon from a high hill. very warm today.
