Camp Four miles in rear of Savannah Ga.. Friday Decem,, 16th,, 1864 Dear Friends Through the blessings of God I am once more permitted to write to you. The first thing to tell you is that I am well and have been the entire campaign and I hope you are all the same. We have marched three hundred miles and opened communication on the coast with the capture of fort McAlister and armament I have seen a potion of Georgia on this campaign and think we shall see the inside of Savannah soon. We started from Atlanta the 15th,, of Nov,,. and reached here the 13th,, of Dec,, I wrote to you some time before we left Atlanta that we were going some where but did not know where, you have probaly heard from us some by the papers. We have not rec'd,, any mail yet but expect to tomorrow and then I hope to hear from you also what has transpired north during the campaign We had not heard from election when we left Atlanta but found rebel papers that said Lincoln was elected but how much majority I did not learn (Vertically, at top left:-) It is very singular that you do not get my letters I wrote you just before we left Atlanta and that we were under marching orders please write if you got that. good night Dec. 17th (Vertically, at mid left:-) I tell you I was glad to hear from home once more Cell
