a large force of Rebs and concequently had to keep out skirmishers in the advance but the Rebs all skeadaddled ahead of us the first day, and second day till about three o clock P.M,, when suddenly we were fired on by some Rebels, our Regt and the 73d,, Pa,, were in the advance on the skirmish line and of course were the first engaged, there was a full Brigade of Rebs and after a short skirmish our two Regts were ordered to charge the Rebs, We did so with a full cheer, and away the Brigade of gray backs run and our two Regts after them, the skirmish was in the woods so there were not many hlrt only one man in our Regt and his little finger on the left hand was shot off., He belongs (Vertically, from bottom right:-) to Co C.
