Camp Elk Fork. Va. Aug 14 1861 Mrs Sarah Davis Dear Wife Again I resume my pen to let you know that I am Still enjoying good health hoping this will find all the dear ones at home enjoying the same blessing I received a letter from Newton last night dated Aug 5th containg some slips from the daily papers which ware generally interesting. He Stated in that that you had sent me a letter enclosed in one Sent by Anna Bennett to Tom by Express. He has not received the package consequently I have not received yours Frank Miller tells me that there is complaint at home because I do not write oftener but I assure you I write as often as evry 4 to 6 days which is positively as often as I have had time to write. I have written 2 or 3 letters which I have received no answer from One I wrote in which I enclosed 2 wooden rings to the children which has been gone long enough to be answered but the last one has not had time to make a return as yet. I was very much mortified after I had written my last letter to you when I had finished it and took out the case which contains your minature in which I kept the Stamps you and Sister Nancy had sent me and which I always carried in the side pocket of my shirt, to find that the sweat had entirely spoiled the case and also the Stamps. the case was in a dozen pieces and the Stamps so black & mouldy that you could not tell what they were intended for, but the most lucky part was that the picture was not hurt in the least. I could get no Stamp to put on that letter as money would not buy them at any price so I had to risk sending it by paying the money which is verry uncertain as there has
