Saving...
Cap. Orr did not go to Louisville to see about sending the body of Elihu Macy home as I wrote he would his excuse was that he could not get a pass to go but I do not believe it for others get passes to go to Louisville and I cannot see why he could not particularly on such an occasion as that. Six men 2 Lieutenants 2 Sergeants and 3 privates out of this Regiment Start home tomorrow morning to recruit for the Regiment. Sergeant McMurtrie goes from our company. If they do not have a pleasant time it will be their own fault. They are to stay six month if not sooner recalled but by what I can learn by the papers and otherwise I honestly believe the rebellion will be crushed before that length of time. I do not think we will be home that soon for if peace was made now it would take nearly that long before they would have the men mustered out of Service. Evrything appears to be moveing in the right direction and our immense Army is winding its Anaconda like folds slowly but surely around its victim and I can see nothing to stop it from crushing it as it comes together. I see in todays Louisville Journal (which by the way we get evry day regularly in camp now) an extract from the Richmond Enquirer in which the editor of that princely sheet of rebellion is whineing most pitifully and says that if the south do not send men immediately to Boling Green enough to enable Johnson (who is now in command there) to march right through Kentucky and across the Ohio River and carry the war into our territory then they might as well give up for he says that the loyal troops are surrounding them and that is the only way for them to get out. He admits that Buel has 106,000 men between Boling Green and the Ohio River, and you know the Gallant 10th Ind. is counted in that number so I think it will be some time before the citizens of Liberty will be disturbed by the booming of the rebel artillery. I hope Gen. Nelson will give us back our Colors before that time any way for we don't want to go to battle without them sure
