Saving...
he was captured by Nelsons Pickets at Murphysborough but we do not know how true it is. I received Sister Nancys letter of the 29 at the same time I received yours. Yesterday I received one from Van written somewhere in Ripley Co. Glad to hear that you are all well. I was much surprised when I saw the letter from New York as I had been led to believe by your letters for the last 3 or 4 months that you was well but I am sorry that I was mistaken. As regards your being treated by Dr Fitch you must be your own judge, you have had some experience with his medicines and should know something about them. I must acknowledge that his letter and circular smacks considerably of the quack, first by his proposition to treat you for 25$ when his regular price is 35$. Second, he must have the money in advance and will only treat you 2 months for that price. 3rd, you must get somekind of braces which you will have to buy extra and fourth he says he is not after money but only wants to do good to the human family. If you commence with him you may calculate on it costing for the first 3 months not less than 50$, as he will hardly cure you in less time than that but the money is no object in the matter and if you think he can do you any benefit try him by all means and I assure I will never begrudge it. It is now almost time for the cars and I must close this in time to send it on the train. Tell mother I received the letter she sent me in L. Beavers package. I never got the letter Newton sent me by Hazell. Dont send the Shirts unless you send by some one comeing direct to the Regt. Maze got here 4 days since. Direct to Tullahoma Tenn until further orders. Kiss the children for me. My love to you and my best wishes to all. Your affectionate Husband A. F. Davis
