Vervilla Tenn Aug 16 1862 Mrs. Sarah Davis My Dear Wife As I have to go on picket duty in a short time and will not get back before tomorrow evening I will pen you a few lines before I start I have been expecting a letter from you for several days but none comes therefore I will write to you without awaiting longer. I feel so anctious to hear from Little Hattie that I dont hardly know how to await your next letter as I want to hear whether she has got well again. I hope she is better for Luther Beaver got a letter from his Sister written several days since yours was and she says nothing about her therefore I hope she is not dangerous. We left Tullahoma the 13th and come to Manchester and remained one day and yesterday we come to Vervilla 15 miles from Manchester and 8 miles from McMinnville It is a village of some 1/2 doz houses and is near the McMinnville R. R. and is just at the commencement of the breaks of the Cumberland mountains which show their blue tops a few miles to the South East of us.
