Saving...
back to Vervilla again and this morny (Wednesday) we left there and come 6 miles to where we now are which brings us within 2 miles of McMinnsville and we are now encamped as though we might remain here for a few days at least. So within the last 6 days we have marched 90 miles through dust shoe mouth deep, and very hot weather but what it was for or what we accomplished I cannot tell but no doubt our Commanding General had good motives for the movement but the boys cannot see the motive therefore some of them will grumble but some men grumble at anything in the Army as well as out of it. I have nothing new to write about any of the boys of Union Co. more than what I last wrote Several have sore feet by being blistered by marching without socks but that will soon heal up. The boys are starting therefore I will have to stop immediately and run and overtake them to send this. If I had time I would write you a long letter concerning our last goose chase but no time now. My health is good. Write often and direct until further notise to - McMinnville Tenn. Excuse this badly written letter as I am in a hurry and also very tired. My respects to all and love to yourself the children and Mother Your Affectionate Husband, A. F. Davis
