Bowling Green Ky Sept. 12th 1862 Mrs. Sarah Davis My Dear Wife You no doubt begin to be quite uneasy concerning me owing to my long Silence I will now explain why I have not written for so long a time. The last I wrote to you was when our band boys left us at McMinnville. The next Mornig after I wrote that Our Brigade was ordered on a foraging expedition up the valley of Collins River. We took one hundred wagons and went up the valley 20 miles but found no forage for horses, but found Some Bacon and flour hid in a cave and all along the rout there was plenty of Peaches. So the boys had plenty to eat but as I before said no forage for horses. We come back the next day which was Saturday Aug 30. Sunday the 31st was general Muster day so we was in Camp, attending to that all day and at dark ware ordered into line and by
